Ugandan billionaire businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia lives in one of Kampala’s most prominent private residences, a mansion whose scale reflects his business success and family lifestyle.

Known as the Ruparelia Residence, the property sits in Lower Kololo, Kampala. It reportedly cost about US$10 million and features 16 bedrooms, extensive gardens and a swimming pool.

The residence has also attracted attention over reported monthly electricity bills of Ksh880,000 and a domestic workforce of 46 people.

Sudhir’s Business Empire

Sudhir Ruparelia is the founder and chairman of the Ruparelia Group, a conglomerate with interests across several economic sectors.

The group operates in real estate, financial services, education, banking, agriculture, hospitality and media.

According to the information published by CEO.co.ug, the business empire comprises more than 28 companies and employs over 8,000 people.

Many of its employees are women, reflecting the group’s contribution to employment across different sectors.

Through Meera Investments Limited, the group has developed an extensive property portfolio. It reportedly owns more than 300 properties across Uganda.

The company has established a significant presence in Kampala’s commercial and residential property market.

Inside the Ruparelia Residence

The Ruparelia Residence stands on Plot 9, Kawalya Kaggwa Close, in Lower Kololo, one of Kampala’s prestigious neighbourhoods.

According to CEO.co.ug, Sudhir purchased the property in 1990 for US$200,000, approximately Ksh23 million at the exchange rate cited in the original report.

He reportedly paid for the property in instalments before demolishing the existing house to make way for a new mansion.

His wife, Jyotsna Ruparelia, designed the residence in collaboration with the group’s architect, identified in the original report as Kristen Kirsten.

The design also reflected the preferences of individual family members. Each received an opportunity to shape their personal living spaces.

The imposing residence has four floors and a built-up area of approximately 9,000 square metres.

Its parking facilities, gardens and swimming pool occupy another 4,000 square metres, bringing the total property area to about 13,000 square metres.

16 Bedrooms and Extensive Domestic Facilities

The mansion reportedly contains 16 bedrooms, divided equally between the family and domestic staff.

Eight bedrooms serve family members, while another eight accommodate staff.

The family section includes a three-bedroom wing for the late Rajiv Ruparelia. Sudhir and Jyotsna have a separate bedroom, while Sheena and Meera each have their own.

Two additional bedrooms accommodate guests.

The property also features extensive outdoor spaces and recreational facilities, adding to its residential appeal.

Beyond his Kampala residence, Sudhir reportedly owns luxurious homes in London and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

His lifestyle and expansive property portfolio offer a glimpse into the private world of one of Uganda’s most prominent business figures.
