Karuna Wellness Studio and Calabash Spa & Salon are set to bring fitness and cancer awareness together in a fundraising event aimed at supporting breast cancer patients in Uganda, as the two wellness partners prepare to host “Pilates for a Purpose” at Speke Apartments Wampewo in Kampala on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

The initiative, organised as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will combine a floor Pilates session, medical education and community fundraising to encourage early detection and provide support to people affected by the disease.

Held under the theme “Move with Intention. Support with Heart,” the event seeks to highlight the connection between personal wellbeing and collective responsibility, encouraging participants to use their interest in fitness to contribute to a broader public health cause.

Karuna Wellness Studio will lead the Pilates session, while Calabash Spa & Salon, located at Speke Apartments Wampewo, will host the gathering and provide hospitality support. The programme will also feature refreshments, guest engagement and opportunities for participants to interact in a pink themed environment reflecting solidarity with breast cancer patients and their families.

Beyond the physical exercise, organisers have included an educational session facilitated by a medical professional from the Uganda Cancer Society. The discussion will focus on the importance of early detection, recognising possible warning signs and seeking medical attention promptly.

The session is expected to provide participants with an opportunity to learn more about breast health and the role of timely medical assessment in managing the disease. A symbolic pink ribbon moment will also form part of the programme, underscoring support for individuals and families facing the challenges associated with breast cancer.

Participants will be asked to contribute a minimum of Sh50,000, with all funds raised directed to the Uganda Cancer Society to support breast cancer patients. The fundraising component is intended to ensure that the event extends beyond awareness creation to provide practical assistance to those affected.

The collaboration reflects an effort by the two businesses to use wellness activities as a platform for community engagement. While Pilates promotes physical fitness, the organisers are placing equal emphasis on health education, compassion and support for patients who may face significant personal and financial challenges during treatment.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed in October, provides an opportunity for health organisations, communities and private sector partners to promote breast health education and encourage people to seek appropriate medical advice when they notice changes that may require assessment.

For Uganda, initiatives that bring health information into community spaces can help stimulate conversations about breast cancer and the importance of seeking professional care. However, awareness efforts also need to be accompanied by access to appropriate screening, diagnosis and treatment services.

Through “Pilates for a Purpose,” Karuna Wellness Studio and Calabash Spa hope to encourage participants to turn awareness into action by sharing health information, supporting patients and contributing to the work of the Uganda Cancer Society.

The event’s broader message is that the fight against breast cancer requires more than a month of public attention. Sustained education, timely medical attention and community support remain important in helping affected individuals and their families navigate the disease
